Wall Plank Stepping for Runners
Wall plank stepping is a functional core exercise that challenges your anti-rotation stability, a key component of efficient running form. By stepping your feet while holding a plank against the wall, you train the core muscles that keep your torso stable when your legs are moving.
How to Perform Wall Plank Stepping
Place your hands on a wall at chest height, arms straight, body in a straight line from head to heels. Engage your core and alternately lift each foot off the ground in a marching motion. The key is to prevent your hips from swaying side to side as you step.
Key Points
- Keep your hips level throughout, no swaying
- Engage your core before you start stepping
- Start with 3 sets of 20 steps (10 each side)
- Progress to a floor plank stepping variation when this becomes easy
